What does an asphalt tonnage calculator tell me?
Asphalt plants sell and ticket hot-mix by weight, but you measure a driveway or lot in feet and inches. This calculator bridges the two: multiply the length, width, and compacted thickness for the volume, then multiply by the mix density to get tons.

The compacted thickness is the finished mat you want after rolling, not the loose depth; residential driveways are often 2 to 3 inches, while roads and lots that carry heavy traffic go thicker and are placed in more than one lift. Formula
Volume (cu ft) = length x width x (thickness in inches / 12). Tons = volume x mix density per cubic foot / 2000.

Thickness and lifts
